Dipesh Chakrabarty, born in 1948 in Kolkata, India, is a prominent Indian historian renowned for his expertise in postcolonial theory and subaltern studies. He holds the distinguished position of Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor in history at the University of Chicago. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Toynbee Prize for his significant contributions to academia and society.
